MISS CZECH REPUBLIC : Tereza Fajksova
What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
I would create the "Learn, See, and Do" project. This project will involve convincing and
influencing governments around the world to make environmental studies compulsory in early
education. It has to be fun to make it easy for kids to learn about the benefits. The curriculum
would also need to include activities so kids get to see the difference. If children learn about
the environment from an early age, they are more likely to continue this behavior in their adult
years.
Describe your childhood/growing years:
My childhood was very happy. I had loving parents and grandparents. I played with
other children and at school I thrived with honors. I drove with my parents on vacation
to the cottage to the dam. I loved times spent with my grandparents, like fishing, picking
mushrooms and walking. I was really the happiest child in the world with my brother. I
thank God for it every day and I really appreciate it.
What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
Not climb to trees, not to walk on thin ice in the winter and not jump into the water
which you never saw.
What is your most memorable moment?
My most memorable moment is fishing with my grandfather and every happy memory
in my mind.
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
I believe that a lot of people want to help the environment but just don't know
how to make a difference. If it's too hard to do, then people just won't do it, so my
environmental advocacy is recycling. Recycling is easy and which everyone can do.
Some countries have recycling bins for each house which is making it easy for people
at home to recycle. But this is only half the solution. What about the workplace? For
example, in a workplace where there is a rubbish bin under every desk, it's easy for
people to put their rubbish in the bin. A lot of this rubbish can be recycled but because
the bin is under their desk it's easy just to put the rubbish there. My solution would be
to remove the bin from every desk and have central recycling stations where people can
put their rubbish in the right recycling bin. They would also color coded so it's easy to
know where to put the trash. This solution is also beneficial as it gets people away from
their desks to walk which is good for their health.
Imagine if more and more buildings had this solution, and because it's so easy to do, it
would have an instant impact on the amount of rubbish that is dumped in landfills which
is hazardous to the earth due to plastics.
The effort is small but the impact is huge. What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
I would recommend to all law makers around the world that as part of providing
approval for any new house or apartment building the new development must be
required to generate at least 25% of their energy from solar energy. Solar energy is
sustainable and technology is well developed that the costs are not too high. But if more
people use it the costs will come down further.
